puck it up

i played my first game of roller hockey last night and it was flat out awesome. i would bet anyone if they saw a live hockey game and played a little themselves, they would be fans for life. it has to be one of the best sports to play. you get a great workout but even a fat guy like me can go for a couple of hours. our game was called because of lights and one of my wheels broke. it ended in a 4 – 4 tie and i scored 3 goals. i have to admit, i had more fun playing hockey last night than i have ever had playing basketball, baseball or football. hockey surpasses them all, not by much mind you, but it was just a lot of fun. next time you out-of-towners are in town bring you blades and we will PUCK IT UP!

demo glory!!!

i am pretty excited. i just got out of our first major demo showing off our advancement in the transportation problem we are trying to solve. the demo went off without any problems. everything worked, amazing!!! one thing about working for a large company is that when you are building a system to consolidate transportation corporate wide you are talking hundreds of millions of dollars. although that is pretty cool it brings a lot of pressure to nail it the first time. well we had our first demo for some higher ups and it worked perfect. so well in fact that they are buying us pizza next thursday (sweeeeeeeeeet).

for those more technically inclined, i built a multi-threaded, object pool action system that allows our legacy ERP system built on COBOL to interact with a third-party java transportation system. we get flat files from the COBOL system and transform them to XML and pass it to the third-party system. although this is integration of the file level vs. the code level, it is still pretty cool. the framework is pretty extensible and allows for dynamic object creation based off an config information and an interface contract. it works so well in fact, that i am toying around with adding some features and possibly open sourcing the project to see if there is any interest. i assume there are a few businesses that operate as conservative technically as the one i work for and could benefit from my framework. who knows?

on a side note, i am having edward look into creating my own internet radio show and releasing it online. the concept is going to be for the geek inclined and will obviously contain my outrageous view of the world, as well as, my friend nathan’s (if he is still willing). what do ya think? would you guys tune in? i know it won’t get very big, but it may be fun, especially if someone happens upon it from using google. do i have any of you guys volunteering to line up as the first guests, hehe?

later

also, i will try to get more wild with my post and have you guys rolling on the floor soon. i will also have a category listing on my entries so you can sort on those you want to see and are interested in.

i want a mac

i want a powerbook so bad it hurts. it has to be the coolest computer on the market today. not to mention mac os x just plain rocks. the power of unix, the development platform built for java and the pretty fluff that mac has always had. it has to be one of the most innovative platforms right now. it gives you iTunes, which just absolutly rocks, you have hydra, a text editor that allows mutliple people to collabirate on a document, you have the open darwin project, that allows any developer to further the underlying unix platform of the mac, etc, etc. Not only that the father of java develops on a mac. i need to start a fundraiser to help me purchase a mac. i am currently trying to save for a house, so a computer purchase won’t fly with the wife. i need to creative ideas how to raise money for a mac. please leave comments to help me out.

i do have one, how about all my rich, single friends on the coast get together and get there midwest stuck friend a “we feel sorrow for you that your stuck in the midwest” pity gift. sounds good to me.
