“Dodgeball is a sport of violence, exclusion, and degradation.”
…
I have been really busy recently and that is my excuse for the lack of blogging. I have had a few ideas sent to me about conducting my next set of posts. I like them and will get to them shortly. But here is a short one for now.
Over the weekend I went and saw Dodgeball. The movie was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It ranks right up there with Ace Ventura Pet Detective and So I Married an Axe Murderer. If you have not seen it yet, go! Ben Stiller’s character is hysterical. He plays that part so well. Make sure you stay after the credits as you will get probably the funniest scene of the whole movie. The training scenes are really funny as well. If you have seen it or after you go see it leave me a comment and tell me what you thought.

Here is a great article on an outsiders view of the beast, Microsoft. It is a great read for anybody that uses computers and might explain why things operate the way they do.

I am not saying I agree or disagree with this article but it makes a lot of sense. I would love to hear Mike’s perspective on this when he has time. I would also love to hear anyone else’s comments. I post this because this is what I do and it affects me greatly.

Since I am associated with very intelligent and influential people, I have had the luck of begging for a Gmail account and received one. I do not feel comfortable discussing what I had to give up for the account
You guys can send me some messages at supercodepoet@gmail.com. This way I might be able to gather some invites to send out. I, like Ryan, am now part of the upper echelons of geekdom. I feel so special.

So there is the bus traveling on the highway filled with 30 of the ugliest people you have ever seen. When you look up the definition of ugly in the dictionary you see these people’s faces. They must be going to an ugly convention or something.
All of a sudden a semi skips the median and runs into the bus killing all 30 ugly people. The next thing they know is that they are standing outside the pearly gates waiting to enter heaven. The gates slowly open and out walks the creator of the universe.
God says, “Whooo! You folks are ugly! I must have messed up somewhere when I created you.” He continues, “How’s this, since you all had a rough go of it in life I will grant you one wish.”
He walks up to the first ugly person and asks them for there wish. “You know, my whole life I have been ugly, I want to be beautiful!” the person says. God gives an agreeing nod, snaps his fingers and puff the person is the most beautiful creature in the world. The person standing next to them says, “I too have been ugly for all my life and I want to be beautiful too.” Puff, they are the most beautiful creature in the world.
This goes on and on as all the ugly people want to be beautiful. God gets to the 15th person and the same thing happens. The guy at the end of the line just starts laughing out loud. They all look at him like he is a little strange. God continues to go down the line, 16th person beautiful, 17th person beautiful, etc. and the guy at the end keeps laughing and laughing. God gets to the 29th person and poof the same thing. This time the guy falls down with laughter. He just can not contain himself.
God gives the man a smirk and says, “Ok buddy, what do YOU wish for?” The man picks himself off the ground, chuckling softly and waves his hand slightly at the others and declares, “Make ‘em all ugly again.”
The quote from yesterday was from Merry in the Lord of the Rings – Return of the King.
” Well… yes. At least, well enough for my own people. But we have no songs for great halls and… evil times.”

After the great discussions that have taken place recently on this blog, which I thank you very much they have been awesome, I now have to ask the question:
What place does religion have in our government?
The last time David was down in my neck of the woods we had a very interesting discussion about the man who wants to take “One Nation under God” out of the Pledge of Allegiance. I am still torn on the subject and would like to hear your comments.
On one side I see the Biblical example of Israel and how God was supposed to be the head of their government. This didn’t allows happen but the laws that were made for that government were based on the Bible. Then I also see in New Testament times how the Roman empire was in control of the land and Christ never really hit on the political aspect of faith and government. He talks about when its rules overrides God’s rules that you should go with God and a few other examples; yet, He never, that I can remember, pushes the issue that they should try to change the policies of the Roman government to be more faith based.
A lot issues come up base don how you answer that question. It is a big issue to tackle and I am not necessarily looking for solutions but more of a theoretical debate on the aspects of the question. I am at a crossroads and would like some discussion.
Let’s get ready to rumble!
P.S. The quote from yesterday was from Superman II and General Zod said it.

Yesterday I spent the whole day at work in a training session/seminar about Microsoft .NET security. For a one day seminar the content was decent although a little on the simplistic side. The instructor sucked major butt. He had about 6 certs after his name yet he knew nothing. We spent the whole 8 hours with him reading through the slides that they gave us on paper. It was incredibly boring.
The first thing that clued us into the fact that this guy knew nothing was when he started talking about attacks that hackers will try against a company. He came to the topic of “Social Engineering” in which he stated, “These are guys that hate, like, banks and stuff and what to get rid of them or something, hehe”.
What a complete moron!!! I am so glad I was stuck in a room with is Abe Lincoln look alike for so long. What a waste of time.
P.S. The answer to the movie quote on this post, http://www.supercodepoet.com/blog/archives/000052.html, was from the movie Pleasantville.
“Carnies. Circus folk. Nomads, you know. Smell like cabbage. Small hands.”

Here is BigDaddy’s comments to my last post:
First, I give my full support to the war in Iraq. I believe in the decisions the Bush Administration is making on the war . I look to have innocent lives protected and defeat the evil that is causing the terrorism. I believe that having a faith based President is what maybe holding this country together. I see a lot of comments on the war that have words for example I guess, maybe, from the information given, but we have a leader in Washington who is making the decisions with confidence and the leadership we need and not backing down in the middle of it. I remember a President who was a leader and never admitted making a mistake… Reagan … may he Rest in Peace. I was pretty shocked to see the statements written about bravery (maybe this was used loosely), but I feel compelled to comment. I feel moving from the Midwest to the West Coast is no sign of bravery. If I moved then I would have great experiences and if God leads me in that direction then it will be done (no big deal). I would not feel brave or courageous because that is for the men and women who have put there lives on hold and are fighting the war over in Iraq. Bravery is for the people who took an airplane down in Pennsylvania so that it would not hit the Whitehouse or wherever it was headed. I don’t know if Travis was relaying what Dave, Ryan, and Andrew said, but I would rethink the definition of bravery.
Also, if this post was due to the comments made by Jimmy, Adam, and Nate then it should be noted that they have all experienced life out of the Midwest box a time or two. Being able to express ones opinions are what make this country great and I don’t know who looks better on this post. Everybody expresses there opinion and then you turn around and say shut up stupid you need to get out more hey nice going Trav.
Here is my response (which I thought more fitting for a post than another comment):
This post was not directed to any people that have commented on this blog. It was actually provoked by a different situation completely unrelated to this blog.
As far as bravery goes, it can come in many forms. You don’t have to be a hero and die for some cause to be brave. Overcoming one’s fears, to me, is the greatest form of bravery. I believe bravery is the attempt to try something new or to think about something in a different way. How many rednecks would be brave enough to consider an inner-racial marriage? Bravery has a broader definition than what you see take place in war, action movies. A single mother working two jobs so she can keep her kids off welfare is brave to me.
I see a lot of spewing of hatred with what is going on with the gay marriage issue, yet; I ask: How many gay people have you met? How many gay people have you become an acquaintance with? I am not saying gay marriage is right, yet; I just don’t see the love of Christ in much that is said in regards to certain issues.
Christ stepped out of his poor, Jewish, carpenter role to experience things from different walks of life, to be tempted in every way that we are. He ate with the thief, He talked to the harlot and He loved the betrayer. That is our role model.
I am not saying you necessarily need to move to the coasts to be brave. I am challenging people to be brave enough to experience different cultures, to be brave enough to understand someone else’s point of view and to be brave enough not to just rely on your own view that was wired in by current culture, dogma and habit. To be brave enough to think before reciting something that was brainwashed in your head through the current culture in which you live.
As far as people commenting on this blog goes, I love that people have different opinions. That is why I want people to comment. I am not telling them to just up. I am telling them I want them to speak up. I want to here their opinions. I want to walk in their shoes and experience their culture.I want them to disagree we me. I want them to challenge me to think outside my culture.I want to be changed and for the better. Keep commenting I want them.
