Ok, Dave, I’ll bite. Here are my top 5 “guilty pleasures”. You can check out Dave’s at http://byscuits.com/2005/11/guily-pleasures.php, although I am not sure where 4 and 5 are
- WWE wrestling games – My uncle Curtis introduced me to wrestling when I was but a wee lad. My brother and I used to take my little sister out to the trampoline and practice the latest moves. I still remember giving my brother a bloody nose performing Jake “The Snake” Robert’s patented DDT. Those were the great days of Hulk Hogan, Randy “Macho Man” Savage and Sting. Because of this background I still love playing wrestling games on the PlayStation 2. I prefer to play these type of fighting games over the likes of Tekken, Mortal Combat, etc. There is just something I love about watching a computer generated wrestler strut to the ring while his entrance music is playing and then nailing your opponent with a deadly finisher! Man I love this stuff, gotta go and play WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw 2006. If ya smeeeelll….
- Star Wars Expanded Universe – Like wrestling, Star Wars, was a giant part of my childhood. I remember wasting hours setting up great battle scenes and acting them out with every character imaginable. I only wish I would have kept all those toys as they are worth a small fortune now. We the advent of the prequels, my love for Star Wars was rekindled as an adult. I now enjoy reading “the rest of the story”, sorry Larry, in novels and comics (mostly novels, I’m not a nerd
I have even indoctrinated my son into the Star Wars universe and he has seen all six movies. He will inherit a large library of EU material when he is old enough to read. - Meg Ryan chick flicks – There is just something about the way she plays those smart but utterly clueless drama queens that I just love. It doesn’t hurt that she is absolutely gorgeous. My favorite films have to be “When Harry Met Sally”, “Sleepless in Seattle” and “You’ve Got Mail”. What could be better than building a budding relationship with Meg Ryan over email while she uses an Apple!
- Melodic Punk music – MxPx, Cooties, Ghoti Hook, Value Pac, Blink 182, Relient K and all the other power melodic pop punk bands that pound out there three chord glory. There is just something about driving down to Bartlesville, OK for a concert with one of your best friends singing away to the latest MxPx album. Don’t forget the many times we missed the harmony but kept play our air guitars like it was going out of style at 80 mph.
- Real Genius – Quite possible the funnest movie that most people have not seen or have not seen in a long time. I watch this movie at least 10 times a year. It has a great 80’s soundtrack and the best one liners for a PG type movie. I love the way Val Kilmer plays the super brain that decides to get really creative with his intelligence and waste it on life’s fun. He reminds me of what my uncle Curtis must have been like in college. If you haven’t seen the movie, NetFlix it and enjoy.
That’s the list. What do you think? What are some of your “guilty pleasures”?
